This mug is handmade especially for my fellow Murderinos, fans of the true crime comedy podcast “My Favorite Murder”, hosted by Karen Kilgariff and Georgia Hardstark. I listen to My Favorite Murder constantly while making mugs in my home ceramics studio.

The “Stay Out of the Forest” Skull Mug holds 14 oz of your favorite whiskey cocktail or diet pepsi, as well as tropical cocktails. You can drink from the flat part of the rim; it is dishwasher and microwave safe. It is sturdily built, slip-cast from mid-fire ceramic stoneware. The mug is covered in a metallic black glaze, with flowing red and orange like magma flowing over lava. It stands approximately 4“ high. Each mug is signed and says SSDGM on the bottom.

Due to the flowing nature of this glaze, some of the letters may be obscured.

While the MFM catchphrase “Stay Out of the Forest” translates to something like “avoid dangerous situations”, I interpret it to be tongue in cheek. As Karen Kilgariff explains: “...you can’t “stay out of the forest” because the world is a forest. And it’s filled with predators. If someone is assaulted, it wasn’t because they were careless, irresponsible, or dressed wrong. It happened because some piece of shit chose to assault them. And if someone is murdered, it’s because some piece of shit chose to murder them.”

All Shima Ceramics mugs are completely handmade, start to finish, in my home studio in California. I live and work in the tiny town of Port Costa with my daughters Lemon and Lucy, my partner Ashleigh, and our three dogs.
